On the ice: how Wellington County hockey teams did on the weekend

Weekly wrap-up on the wins and losses from the Elora Rocks, Fergus Whalers, Mount Forest Patriots, Erin Outlaws and Minto 81's

Elora Rocks

Elora is down two games in a best-of-five series against the Stratford Fighting Irish in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League playoffs. 

The series started on Friday with game one on home ice where the Rocks lost in overtime 6-5. Stratford went on to win 7-3 on Saturday in game two. 

The team is in a must win position for game three on Saturday afternoon in Stratford. 

Fergus Whalers

The Whalers are ahead by three games in a best-of-seven series against the Walkerton Capitals in the PJHL’s North Pollock division quarter-finals.

The team won 3-2 in game one at home last Tuesday, then 5-2 in Walkerton on Friday before another home win 6-2 on Sunday. 

Fergus will move on to the next round if the team wins Wednesday evening on the road. Games are scheduled for Friday in Fergus, Saturday in Walkerton and Sunday in Fergus if needed. 

Mount Forest Patriots

Mount Forest won two games over the weekend to put them ahead 2-0 in a best-of-seven series in the PJHL’s Noth Pollock division quarter-finals.

In a high-scoring home match on Saturday, The Patriots had a dominant 9-1 win in game one before a 2-0 shutout in game two on the road Sunday. 

The team will play game three in Mitchell on Thursday and game four at home on Saturday. Game five and six are scheduled if needed on Sunday and Monday in Mitchell and Mount Forest respectively.

Minto 81’s

Minto shutout the Creemore Coyotes 3-0 in game one of the Ontario Elite Hockey League’s semi-final playoff round. 

The team is scheduled to play in Creemore Saturday evening before hosting the Coyotes at home ice in Palmerston Sunday afternoon.
