On the ice: how Wellington County hockey teams did on the weekend

Weekly wrap-up on the wins and losses from the Elora Rocks, Fergus Whalers, Mount Forest Patriots, Erin Outlaws and Minto 81's

Fergus Whalers

The Whalers are down 2-1 in a best-of-seven playoff series against the Hanover Barons in the North Pollock division semi-finals. 

Fergus tied the series on Friday on the road with a 4-2 win in game two before a 7-3 loss on home ice on Sunday. 

The team is back on home ice Wednesday evening for game four and in Hanover Friday for game five. Game six is scheduled for Sunday in Fergus and game seven on Monday in Hanover if necessary. 

Mount Forest Patriots

Mount Forest is in a position to move on to the North Pollock division playoff finals as the team is 3-0 in a best-of-seven playoff series against the Kincardine Bulldogs.

The team pulled off three wins in a row, first 3-2 at home on Wednesday, 2-1 on the road Friday and then 5-2 at home on Saturday. 

The series may end Tuesday in game four held in Kincardine but further games are scheduled at home Wednesday, away Friday and at home Saturday if needed.

Minto 81’s

Minto will be playing in the Ontario Elite Hockey League’s championship playoff round after taking the semi-final series 4-1.

The team was ahead two games to one going in to Friday’s home game which resulted in a big 6-1 win for the 81’s. Minto then followed that up with a 7-1 win to take the series in Creemore on Saturday. 

Minto will be up against the Tavistock Royals in the final playoff round. Games have not yet been scheduled.
