On the ice: how Wellington County hockey teams did this weekend

Weekly wrap-up on the wins and losses from the Elora Rocks, Fergus Whalers, Mount Forest Patriots, Erin Outlaws and Minto 81's

Elora Rocks

It was a close home game on Friday but the Elora Rocks couldn’t pull off a win against the Stratford Fighting Irish, falling 5-4.

The team sits fifth out of 10 teams in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League with five wins and three losses. 

The Rocks play twice this upcoming weekend, first at home on Friday against the TIlbury Bluebirds for Team Addy night and then an away game Saturday against the Dunnville Aeros. 

Fergus Whalers

The Fergus Whalers fell short against the Mitchell Hawks, losing 5-3 at a special home game played in Arthur. 

The Whalers are seventh out of eight teams in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s (PJHL) North Pollock division with three wins, 11 losses, two overtime losses and two ties. 

The team is out in Walkerton on Friday, facing off against the Capitals at 7:30 p.m.

Mount Forest Patriots

The Mount Forest Patriots dominated over the weekend, first winning 9-1 in an away game against the Kincardine Bulldogs Friday and then shutting out the Hanover Barons at home 3-0 Saturday.

The team is second out of eight teams in the PJHL’s North Pollock division with 14 wins, four losses and one overtime loss.

The Patriots have another two game weekend coming up, first on the road to Wingham to take on the Ironmen Friday and then back at home Saturday for another match against the Bulldogs.

Erin Outlaws

The Erin Outlaws lost against the Seaforth Centenaires 4-2 at the Seaforth and District Community Centre on Sunday. 

The team is ninth out of 11 teams in the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL) with three wins and five losses.

The Outlaws are back at home Sunday for an afternoon match against the Durham Thundercats.

Minto 81’s

It was a mixed bag weekend for Minto, first winning 5-2 against the Thundercats on Saturday before taking a 5-3 loss against the Lucknow Lancers on Sunday.

The Minto 81’s are in the middle of the pack, sitting sixth out of 11 teams in the OEHL with four wins and four losses.

The team is on the road this upcoming weekend for a match against the Georgian Bay Apple Kings Saturday.
