On the ice: how Wellington County hockey teams did this weekend

Weekly wrap-up on the wins and losses from the Elora Rocks, Fergus Whalers, Mount Forest Patriots, Erin Outlaws and Minto 81's

Elora Rocks

The Elora Rocks lost twice over the weekend, first at home 7-2 on Friday against the Tilbury Bluebirds and then 7-4 in Dunville against the Aeros on Saturday. 

The team is in sixth place out of 10 teams in the Western Ontario Super Hockey Leauge standings. 

This upcoming weekend, Elora faces the Orangeville Blitz twice, first at home on Friday at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex and then at the Alder Arena in Orangeville on Saturday. 

Fergus Whalers

The Whalers had a winning weekend. The team won 2-1 against the Walkerton Capitals on the road Friday and then won 4-1 at home against the Wingham Ironmen Sunday.

Fergus is seventh out of eight teams in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s (PJHL) North Pollock division standings.

The team is at home again on Sunday for an afternoon game against the Kincardine Bulldogs.

Mount Forest Patriots

Similar to their division mates, Mount Forest also won twice over the weekend. The Patriots won 4-2 against the Ironmen on Friday in an away game and then 7-2 against the Bulldogs at home on Saturday.

Mount Forest is second out of eight teams in the PJHL’s North Pollock division standings.

The team has a home game on Saturday against Walkerton on Saturday.

Erin Outlaws

The Outlaws lost at home on Sunday against the Durham Thundercats 3-2. 

Erin is eighth of 11 teams in the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL) standings.

The Erin Outlaws are on the road Sunday for an afternoon game against the Lucknow Lancers.

Minto 81’s

Minto came out on top against the Georgian Bay Applekings, winning 6-4 in an away game.

The 81’s are sixth of 11 teams in the OEHL standings.

The team is hitting the road twice this upcoming weekend, first at the Port Elgin Arena Friday against the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks and then Sunday afternoon against the Seaforth Centenaires.
