WELLINGTON COUNTY – It was a winless weekend for Wellington County’s two Western Ontario Super Hockey League teams.

Elora Rocks came up short in two close games and Erin Blitz losing one.

It started at home for Elora on Friday against the Strathroy Jets.

After a scoreless first period, Strathroy put away four unanswered goals in the second.

While Elora did manage to follow up with a three goal streak, it wasn’t enough to catch up and the team lost 4-3.

The following day, Elora hit the road to Tillsonburg for a high-scoring match-up that had to be resolved in overtime.

The Rocks started strong with a dominant first period with five unanswered goals but Tillsonburg Thunder went on to score five in the second.

Another goal for each team put the game to double overtime where Tillsonburg clinched the win.

Erin Blitz also fell short despite a dominant first period in an away game against Alvinston.

In the first period, Erin scored three and goaltender Jake Tugnutt didn’t let any in.

However, the Killer Bees got two power play goals in the second and three more in the third period to take the win.

Elora is ranked fourth in the nine-team league and Erin sits at the bottom.

The Rocks will get a rematch against Tillsonburg on Friday at a home game starting at 8:30 p.m. for its last game of the year.

Elora and Erin will later go head-to-head on Jan. 6 for both team’s first game of 2023.
