GUELPH/WELLINGTON – Young people in the region will get the chance to help write a song for a good cause with a notable Canadian musician.

Alan Doyle, best known as the singer of Great Big Sea, is collaborating with The Grove youth wellness hubs to create a song dedicated to mental health awareness.

Doyle is creating the song with the help of local youth, who can submit some of their thoughts around mental health on a web page.

“What don’t people understand about mental health? What do you want your friends, parents, teachers and community to know?” the web page states, encouraging youth to share their input whether that be a single word, a paragraph, a poem or a song lyric.

Submissions can be completely anonymous and are open until Feb. 13.

After the submission period, Doyle is holding a one-hour workshop to assist him in writing the song.

“When Alan has finalized the lyrics, he welcomes any youth in Guelph, Wellington County and Waterloo Region who would like to participate to join him in creating a music video, with a chance of performing it live at one of The Grove’s upcoming events in summer of 2022,” the web page states.
