MacDonell scores twice to lead Steelheads past Battalion 4-1

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Angus MacDonell had two goals to power the Mississauga Steelheads past the North Bay Battalion 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League playoff action Wednesday night.

With the victory, Mississauga tied the best-of-seven Eastern Conference opening-round series 2-2. The fifth game goes Friday night in North Bay, Ont.

Zander Veccia and James Hardie had the other goals for Mississauga while Ryerson Leenders stopped 22 shots.

In other playoff action, it was: Peterborough Petes 4, Sudbury Wolves 2; and Saginaw Spirit 2, Flint Firebirds 1 (OT).

Anthony Romani had the lone goal for North Bay while Dom DiVincentiis made 28 saves.

At Sudbury, Ont., J.R. Avon had a goal and an assist as Peterborough swept the Eastern Conference series 4-0. Owen Beck, Tommy Purdeller and Tucker Robertson also scored while Michael Simpson stopped 27 shots. Landon McCallum had both goals for the Wolves.


SPIRIT 2 FIREBIRDS 1 (OT)

At Flint, Mich., Mitchell Smith scored the overtime winner to give Saginaw a 3-1 lead in their Western Conference series. Roberto Mancini scored in regulation while Tristan Lennox stopped 28 shots. Amadeus Lombardi replied for the Firebirds, who'll host the fifth game of the series Friday night.
