December 25th, 1945 - May 9th, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Wayne Cawthra, of Fergus, Ontario, who passed away on May 9th, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

Wayne was married for 46 years to his soulmate, Erika, who preceded him in death in 2020. Wayne is survived by his son Mathias (Merin) and daughter Kylene (Jeremy O’Donnell). Wayne was a devoted, loving grandfather of Kalli and Adam Cawthra, Gage, Gryphon, Ronin, and Maverick O’Donnell.

Wayne was born on December 25th, 1945, in Fergus, Ontario to Mary Gummerson and the late Roy Cawthra. He is greatly loved by his sisters Marlene (Brian Van Huisstede) and Sandra (late Richard Taylor). He leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Wayne passed away while battling cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Wayne managed his illness with strength and grace. He was determined to live his life to the fullest and to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. Wayne could always be found at a rink or field cheering on his grandchildren and encouraging them to pursue their talents. Wayne was always looking for the biggest fish, the fastest car and coldest ice cream. He adored good food, coffee, tennis, golf, pool and a good card game but most importantly, he loved sharing these memories with others. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children, who he adored more than anything else in the world.

The Family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses of Grove’s Memorial Hospital and Grand River Cancer center, and Graham Giddy Funeral Home for their care and support. The family would like to invite you to share your memories of Wayne and share a drink in his honour. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, May 26th, 2023 at the Fergus Legion, 501 Blair St. from 1pm to 4pm. If desired, friends may make memorial donations to Groves Memorial Hospital or Hospice Wellington.

Dearest Dad and Grandpa, we love you always and forever!
