It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Gibson. Gerry was born in 1934 in Regina Saskatchewan to Kathleen Grant and Thomas Gibson and died on September 15 2022 in the town of Fergus
Ontario leaving behind his wife Dorothy, his children Grant and Wendy, their spouses Judy and Glenn and his grandchildren Mason and Jakob Gibson and Charlotte and Olivia Rumbell.
Throughout his years Gerry called Winnipeg, Toronto, the Kawarthas’, Nanoose Bay BC and finally Fergus Ontario home and countless people friends.
Gerry was a man who lived life to the fullest. His passions included his wife Dorothy, his children and grandchildren, music, travelling, reading, golf, cottaging, and sports of all nature.
Those who grew up with Gerry will remember a good athlete with an inquisitive mind, keen sense of humour and a yearning to travel and live life to the fullest.
Those who knew Gerry’s musical side, will remember his love of the trumpet, marching bands and the sound
of Canadian Brass blaring from his stereo.
Gerry’s colleagues at Warner Lambert will remember his dedication to his company, ability to lead and passion for sales.
If you met Gerry while travelling, you may have met him on a plane, train, automobile or ship on any one of 5
continents (Antarctica was the only one he missed).
Gerry grew up in the shadow of the greatest generation and if you talked books or videos with him, you would inevitably be discussing the latest Ken Follett novel or innumerable works and documentaries about WWII.
Those who had the pleasure of walking a golf course with Gerry (he avoided carts whenever possible) will
remember his relaxed swing, easy manner and willingness to share tips with anyone who
cared to ask.
For many years Gerry and Dorothy’s second home was a succession of cottages. If you joined Gerry at the cottage, you may have found yourself sipping a Coors Light and savoring the smell of a grilling steak or barbequed breakfast, before setting out to cruise the water or battle the elements to preserve the ‘point’.
If you knew Gerry during his retirement, you likely met up with him at Fair Winds in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island where you may have enjoyed a round of golf or witnessed his creative use of sprinklers to save his garden from deer or an endless parade of squirrel-proof bird feeders. And at the end of the day, you would have shared a cocktail and a laugh with Gerry and Dorothy on their deck overlooking the second hole.
When Gerry and Dorothy moved to Fergus his life changed because of dementia. If you knew Gerry in Fergus, you may not have known much about his life. But you would have enjoyed his sense of humour. It was always with him.
As for his family, we remember all sides of Gerry: the husband, father, grandfather, provider, musician, golfer, friend, cottager, boater, and quick wit. But most of all, we remember a man who loved his family.
