January 31st, 1927 - April 6th, 2024

Dorothy passed peacefully on April 6, 2024 in her 98th year. Predeceased by her loving husband C. Bruce Magee, her brother James and her sisters Gertrude, Marguerite, Elizabeth, Joan and Myrna. Grammy will be remembered with love by her children: Joanne (Douglas Hartkorn), Beverley, Elizabeth (Kiril Rashev), Bruce (Donna Reynolds) and Patrick (Jacqueline Frazer), her grandchildren: Jordan (Kamil), Sarah (Andrew), Susanne, Kelley (Geoffrey), Roberta, Margarita, Rebecca (Alex), James, Charles and Emily, her great grandchildren: Dorothy and Felix, by her sister Kathleen as well as by her many loved nieces and nephews.

Born in Sundridge in 1927 to Roy and Milicent Hill, Dody left home at the tender age of 16 with a silver dollar from her father (which she never did spend even though at times it was the only money she had in the world) to work at the Air Force magazine in Ottawa. She subsequently moved to Willard Hall in Toronto where she worked for Colonel James M. Dunwoody at his accounting firm. There she met Bruce and they married in 1951.

Family was at the core of Grammy’s life. Growing up, her kids fondly remember summer and Christmas visits to Sundridge, Thanksgivings in Braeside and visits to Kay and Don’s dairy farm. Sunday roast beef dinners were a family event not to be missed.

While able, she was actively involved with her grandchildren, caring for them and hosting them for a swim in the back yard. She loved them more.

Dorothy was a fixture at Northminster United Church and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Care-Ring with vigour.

We would like to thank her caregivers, especially Janica. A private family service will be held as well as a celebration in the summer. We are reminded to wear socks in the house, do up our jackets and make sure we have our hat and gloves.
