It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a faithful husband to Marilyn (Hunter) for 59 years, loving father to Jeff & Melanie Rae (Chilliwack, BC), Sherri & Ron Martin (Drayton, ON) and an engaging Papa to Shae-lyn, Edgar, Josh & Jacob.

He was our superman that was strong, creative, and always willing to lend a hand and solve any problem that needed a fix with the most positive of attitudes.

His hands were always working and creating new projects. Anything you wanted to buy, he would say “Oh I can make that!” and then appear with a new creation in a short time.

He grew up in a family of thirteen children on the farm in Mount Forest and then set out to make a name for himself as a custom home builder in the KW region under the name A.L. Rae Construction & later continued his trade in Abbotsford, BC before resettling in Fergus to finish out his career as Site Supervisor for Devonleigh Homes in Orangeville, ON.

He was known by all as a hardworking, honest man of great integrity and blessed his own family with 5 beautiful homes.

He was also a man of great faith and lived out his journey in a humble, quiet way by giving many young men a chance to learn the trade and then gave them wings to go out on their own.

He was very active in many of the churches he attended by serving in the children’s programs and putting together many kits for VBS crafts. Because of Dad’s deep faith in Jesus, we know today he is healed and whole and that our good-bye is only temporary.

He loved wood working, gardening, and thinking up his next creation but most of all he loved his family and supported them in any way he could.

He will be dearly missed by his brothers Carson (Norma), Ormand, Laverne (Irene), David (Ruth); sister Edna Jackson; in laws Bob & Eileen Renton, Stan Groff, Eileen Rae, Eddie Ferguson, Gwen Bradshaw; as well as many special nieces & nephews.

Predeased by his parents Albert & Emma Rae; siblings Norma, Delton (Fern), Shirley (Lloyd), Bob, Betty, Mary Lou (Gordon), Dorothy; sister in law Alice Rae and brother in laws Donald Jackson & Ross Bradshaw.

As expressions of sympathy donations can be made to Hospice Wellington and the Mark Preece Family House in Hamilton.

Special gratitude to the 7th floor nursing staff at Guelph General Hospital Stroke Unit.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
