Ontario reports 1,135 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 166 in intensive care

Ontario is reporting 1,135 people in hospital with COVID-19 today, and 166 in intensive care.

That represents a slight increase from Thursday, when the province reported 1,126 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 159 in ICUs.

Overall, hospitalizations have gone up roughly 40 per cent since last week.

The province is also reporting six new deaths from the virus, as well as four that the province says took place more than a month ago.

Ontario recorded 4,295 new infections today, but the scientific director of Ontario's panel of COVID-19 advisers has said wastewater surveillance suggests daily cases are around 100,000 to 120,000.

The test positivity rate is 19 per cent today, up from 17.2 per cent Thursday.

Nearly 13 per cent of Ontario's long-term care homes are currently reporting an active COVID-19 outbreak.
