Busy week for OPP sees drivers face numerous charges

Among the charges faced by drivers traveling in the area were stunt driving and impaired charges

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Nov. 3, 2022, approximately 1:30 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Concession 2, Puslinch. It was reported that a pick-up truck had left the roadway. As a result of the investigation, [a 49-year-old from] Cambridge, has been charged with impaired operation and impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 m/ blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 3, 2022, at approximately 9 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a red van on Speedvale Avenue East, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old driver from Brampton has been charged with operate unsafe vehicle, defective horn - motor vehicle, fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, defective brakes, unsafe move - lane or shoulder, and insecure load contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the operator was also charged with fail to surrender insurance card contrary to the Compulsorily Automobile insurance act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 4, 2022, approximately 1 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a traffic complaint on Main Street North, Rockwood. It was reported that a silver sedan was being driven erratically. As a result of the investigation, [a 51-year-old] of Rockwood, has been charged with impaired operation and impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 m/ blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 4, 2022, a member of the Highway Safety Division, Traffic Support Unit (OPP) was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 North, Puslinch. At approximately 3:15 p.m., a red sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 60km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 71-year-old driver from Hamilton, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 5, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 39, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 2 a.m., a grey sedan was observed travelling above the posted 80km/hr limit. As a result of the investigation, [a 50-year-old]of Southampton, has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 m/ blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The driver was also charged with speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 5, 2022, approximately 7:30 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Sideroad 5, Erin. It was reported that a white sedan had left the roadway. As a result of the investigation, [a 47-year-old] of Roxboro, has been charged with impaired operation, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 5, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 89, Minto. At approximately 3 p.m., a grey sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old driver from Cambridge, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 5, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a white pick-up truck on Broadway Street, Belwood. As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old driver from Halton Hills has been charged with driving while under suspension, drive motor vehicle no plates, fail to apply for permit on becoming owner, and vehicle modified - fail to apply for new permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the operator was also charged with operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsorily Automobile insurance act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 5, 2022, members of the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on North Broadway Street, Belwood. At approximately 5 p.m., the operator of an orange pick-up truck entered the check. As a result of the investigation, [a 35-year-old] of Moorefield, has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 m/ blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 6, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 8:30 p.m., a red Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) was observed travelling well above the posted 70km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old driver from Oakville, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 7, 2022, at approximately 11 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a blue motorcycle on St Patrick Street West, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old operator from Fergus has been charged with driving while under suspension, use plate not authorized for vehicle and operate unsafe vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the operator was also charged with operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsorily Automobile insurance act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 7, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 124, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 6:30 p.m., a blue coupe was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old driver from Brampton, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 8, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Victoria Road South, Guelph. At approximately 5:15 p.m., a grey sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 70km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old driver from Guelph, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 8, 2022, at approximately 11 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a brown sedan on Margaret Street South, Harriston. As a result of the investigation, [a 20-year-old] of Brussels, was charged with refusal to comply with demand, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 9, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a white sedan on Highway 6, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, [a 24-year-old] of Harriston has been charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and breach of Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code. [A 26-year-old] of Wellington North, have both been charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 9, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 8:30 p.m., a black S.U.V. was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, [a 52-year-old] of Guelph, has been charged with operation while prohibited - legal restriction from any other Act of Parliament or Provincial Law, contrary to the Criminal Code. Further the driver was also charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, drive motor vehicle - not equipped with ignition interlock device, fail to stop for emergency vehicle, and fail to surrender licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 9, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Independence Place, Guelph. At approximately 11:15 p.m., a white S.U.V. was observed travelling above the posted 60km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, [a 52-year-old] of Guelph, has been charged with operation while prohibited - legal restriction from any other Act of Parliament or Provincial Law, contrary to the Criminal Code. Further the driver was also charged with speeding, drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device, fail to surrender licence, and fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

Anyone charged with impaired operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with racing a motor vehicle receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
