Careless driving, trailer violations among charges laid by OPP

On Nov. 24, an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols on Wellington Road 109 in the township of Wellington North and initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old from Grand Valley was charged with Fail to Comply with Release Order, contrary to the Criminal Code and with Permit Vehicle to be Operated without Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. 

On Nov. 25, at approximately 6:30 a.m., an officer was conducting patrols on Wellington Road 7 in Minto Township. The officer observed a passenger vehicle traveling at approximately 143 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation a 42-year-old of St. Catharines was charged with Stunt Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Nov. 25, while on patrol, an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed the driver of a pickup truck using what appeared to be a handheld communication device on Victoria Road South. As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old from Guelph was charged with Drive - Hand-held Communication Device, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.    

On Nov. 26, an officer was patrolling in the township of Wellington North and observed a dually pickup truck southbound on Frederick Street that was pulling a trailer with two loose straps across the load on the trailer. As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old from Holstein has been charged with Operate Commercial Motor Vehicle with Load not Secured as Prescribed, Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle with a Major Defect in it or in Drawn Vehicle and with Fail to Accurately Complete Daily Inspection Report, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear before provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Nov. 26, at approximately 3:30 a.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a blue four-door sedan failing to stop at a red light before it turned right on Fountain Street West, Guelph. As a result of the investigation a 32-year-old from Orangeville was charged with Novice Driver - Blood Alcohol Content Above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver also had their driver’s license suspended for three days.

On Nov. 26, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an officer was patrolling Wellington Road 29 in Centre Wellington and observed a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer with no plate attached to it and with no red lights to the rear of the trailer. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as a result of the investigation a 63-year-old from Rockwood was charged with Improper Means of Attachment and Draw Trailer, No Plate contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was warned regarding several other offences as well. 

On Nov. 26, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an officer was conducting patrols on East Mill Street, Elora in a Community Safety Zone and observed a black passenger vehicle travelling approximately 77 km/hr in a 40 km/hr zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and also observed that a passenger in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old from Elora was charged with Speeding - Community Safety Zone and with Drive while Passenger Under 16 Fails to Properly Wear Seatbelt contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

On Nov. 26, an officer was conducting patrols on Highway 6 in Nichol Township and observed a pickup truck pulling a trailer travelling at approximately 121 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. The officer also observed the pickup truck driving very close to the vehicle in front of it. As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old from Cambridge was charged with Speeding as well as Follow Too Closely, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

On Nov. 29, an officer was conducting LIDAR focused patrols on Brock Road South, Aberfoyle and observed a SUV traveling in excess of the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted and as a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old from Mississauga has been charged with Driving while under Suspension and with Speeding. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Nov. 30, officers with the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving three motor vehicles at Wellington Road 124 and Wellington Road 32. One of the drivers involved was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. It was determined that the driver of a pickup truck involved conducted an unsafe turn resulting in the collision. The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm and is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date.   

On Dec. 1, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a collision involving a school bus on Fifth Line, Guelph/Eramosa Township. While there were children on board the school bus at the time of the accident, no one was injured. It was determined that a SUV rear-ended the school bus and as a result of the investigation a 56-year-old from Guelph has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
