Four area drivers face impaired driving charges

Two incidents involved collisions

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Oct. 29, 2022 at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers with the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Fifth Line, Centre Wellington and spoke to the driver of a red pickup truck. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old of Guelph/Eramosa has been charged with operation while impaired - 80 plus (blood alcohol concentration). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph, at a later date. 

On Oct. 29, 2022 at approximately 10:30 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP stopped a silver sedan on Highway 6, Mapleton Township, after it was observed travelling well above the posted speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old of Guelph has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code as well as with speeding and driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Guelph, at a later date.

On Oct. 31, 2022 at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle on Highway 7, west of Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old of Guelph has been charged with operation while impaired - 80 plus (blood alcohol concentration). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph, at a later date.  

On Nov. 1, 2022 at approximately 8 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 34, Puslinch Township. As a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old of Puslinch Township has been charged with operation while impaired and with operation while impaired - 80 plus (blood alcohol concentration) contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph, at a later date. 

On Nov. 2, 2022 an officer with the Wellington County OPP stopped a red sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Highway 7 after no front license plate was observed on the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old from Erin was charged with driving while under suspension, fail to display two plates, drive while child passenger not properly secured, and fail to surrender permit, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date.

Anyone charged with impaired operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with racing a motor vehicle receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
