Guelph man faces charges including threatening a peace officer

He also faces an impaired driving charge, as do several other drivers in Wellington county

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Aug. 19, 2022, officers with the Wellington County OPP were conducting Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspections on Elmira Road North. A moving truck was inspected and as a result of the investigation a 28-year-old from Scarborough has been charged with drive CMV with a major defect, fail to surrender completed daily inspection report, and drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. A business out of Scarborough was also charged with failure to ensure performance standards are met and failure to ensure daily inspection report is completed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The licence plates were removed from the vehicle due to critical safety concerns.     

On Aug. 20, 2022, the Wellington County OPP was conducting speed enforcement on Peel Street West, Alma. A blue sport utility vehicle (SUV) was observed traveling at 117 km/h in a 50 km/hr zone. A 19-year-old from London was charged with perform stunt - excessive speed. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Aug. 20, 2022, the Wellington County OPP responded to what was initially reported as a collision on Belwood Lake. Upon arrival officers learned that there had not been a collision, but that three people had fallen off of a personal watercraft and had sustained minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital. The vessel operator, a 50-year-old from Milton, was charged with failing to take all reasonable steps to ensure safety of craft and of persons on board contrary to the Canada Shipping Act.  

On Aug. 20, 2022, at approximately 10 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a black sedan being operated in an erratic manner on Wellington Road 109. Prior to officers locating the vehicle, they were advised that it had been involved in a collision. Officers arrived on scene, and as a result of the investigation, a 30-years-old from Aurora, has been charged with operation while Impaired and operation while Impaired - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.  The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph, at a later date. 

On Aug. 22, 2022 at approximately 7:00 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a grey SUV commit a traffic violation on York Road, Guelph. The officer stopped the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, a 31-years-old of Guelph has been charged with the following:

  • HTA 141(2), Adult improper right turn
  • HTA 159(1)(a), Adult fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle
  • HTA Reg613 8(4), Adult fail to ensure child properly secured
  • CC 129(a), Adult obstruct peace officer
  • CC 264.1(1)(a), Adult uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm to peace officer
  • CC 320.14(1)(b), Adult operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph, at a later date. 

On Aug. 23, 2022, at approximately 6 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist on Wellington Road 8, Mapleton Township. The cyclist was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life altering injuries. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old from Moorefield has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. 

On Aug. 23, 2022, an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting speed enforcement on Silvercreek Parkway North and observed a black sedan traveling 133 km/hr. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old from Elora has been charged with perform stunt - excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date. 

On Aug. 24, 2022 an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting speed enforcement on Wellington Road 29, Centre Wellington, and observed a blue sedan traveling 106 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old of Fergus has been charged with perform stunt - excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date. 

On Aug. 24, 2022, at approximately 8 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Jones Baseline, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 54-years-old of Etobicoke has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code and with careless driving, fail to remain and drive motor vehicle - no license, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph, at a later date.
