Loaded handgun, drugs seized following Centre Wellington traffic stop

Over $11,000 in property was seized during the traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of two Waterloo men

Suspected drugs, a loaded weapon, and Canadian currency were seized during a traffic stop in Centre Wellington on July 20, 2023.

As a result of an investigation conducted by the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the Grey Bruce CSCU, Huron-Perth CSCU and the Emergency Response Team, a vehicle was stopped on July 20, 2023 shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Wellington County Road 18, Centre Wellington.

As a result of the traffic stop, a loaded handgun and a quantity of drugs and Canadian currency was located and seized. The estimated value of the seized property is over $11,500.  

Kanaan Ebanks-Daley, 22 years old, of Waterloo has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

Ethan Peter Krzyz, 22 years old, of Waterloo was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

Both accused were held pending a bail hearing.
