One charged with careless driving in crash involving school bus

The driver of a car involved was taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries

As a result of an ongoing investigation, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in a three-vehicle collision involving a school bus. A 65-year-old driver from Wellington north has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm. Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.).

On January 11, 2024, at approximately 8:15 a.m., OPP responded to a serious, motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 16 at Line 10, West Luther. Initial reports indicated that a white Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.), a black coupe and school bus with students onboard were involved. Wellington North Fire Service and Guelph Wellington Paramedics Service also responded. The lone occupant of the black coupe was transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries. The driver of the S.U.V. was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Neither the driver nor any of the 12 students on the bus were injured.

The road remains closed for investigators while they look to determine the cause of the collision. Anyone with information related to it is asked to call 1-888-310-1122.
