OPP Festive RIDE program sees big increase in local impaired charges

WELLINGTON COUNTY – An annual holiday impaired driving campaign by the OPP locally has seen twice the number of charges laid compared to last year. 

A media release from the OPP West Region with the final results of the Festive RIDE campaign showed Wellington OPP laid 28 impaired driving charges during the campaign period of Nov. 16 to Jan. 1. 

This is double the number of charges over the last campaign which saw 14 charges. 

Wellington OPP held 96 RIDE events during the campaign period. 

In total, the 13 detachments making up OPP West Region laid 353 impaired driving charges, up from 278 in the last campaign, through 2,446 events.
