OPP releases notable traffic offences of last week

Wellington County OPP charged drivers with impaired driving, dangerous operation and other offences between March 16 and 28

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On March 16, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck that was observed driving erratically along Garafraxa Street East in Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 64-year-old of Georgetown has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 9.     

On March 19, at approximately 11:55 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a passenger vehicle stopped in a live lane of traffic on Main Street in Rockwood. As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old from Woodstock has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and with failing or refusing to comply with the demand, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 12. 

On March 19, at approximately 4 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP was patrolling Wellington Road 32 and stopped a passenger vehicle. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old from Cambridge has been charged with driving while under suspension. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on April 26. 

On March 22, at approximately 4:15 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to multiple reports of a wrong-way vehicle on the Hanlon Parkway, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old of Oshawa has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and with the dangerous operation, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on April 14. 

On March 23, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Woolwich Street in Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old of Mount Forest has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on April 11. 

On March 23, at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Wellington Road 109. No one was injured. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old from Komoka has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on April 14.

On March 26, around 1 p.m., the Wellington County OPP was conducting a RIDE program on Colborne Street in Centre Wellington. A grey passenger vehicle entered the RIDE program, and the driver was observed showing signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation, a 60-year-old from Elora has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 16. 

On March 28, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP observed a motor vehicle on George Street in Arthur that had been reported stolen. As a result of the investigation, an Essa Township resident has been charged with operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 23.  

Anyone charged with operation while impaired - 80 plus (mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with driving a motor vehicle - performing stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
