OPP roundup: Numerous drivers charged by police on area roadways

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Sept. 8, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a vehicle collision on Eramosa-Erin Townline. It was reported that two vehicles were involved and that there were minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, [a 24-year-old from] Mississauga, has been charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code (C.C.). Further, the driver was also charged with drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.). The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Sept. 29, 2023.

On Sept. 8, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a vehicle collision on Line 2, Wellington North. It was reported that a blue pickup truck was involved in a collision. As a result of the investigation, [a 37-year-old from] Shelburne, has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (B.A.C.) (80Plus) contrary to the C.C. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Sept. 26, 2023.

On Sept. 8, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Minot Street North, Clifford. It was reported that a vehicle had been involved in a rollover and one occupant, a passenger, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of the investigation, [a 38-year-old from] Ayton, was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired - B.A.C. (80 Plus), contrary to the C.C. Further the driver was also charged with novice driver - B.A.C. Above Zero contrary to the H.T.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Sept. 29, 2023.

On Sept. 9, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Wellington Road 17, Mapleton. At approximately 8:30 a.m., a grey sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old driver from Kitchener, was charged with drive while under suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Jan. 17, 2024.

On Sept. 9, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Queen Street East, Wellington North. At approximately 7:45 p.m., a red Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old driver from Mount Forest, was charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Jan. 17, 2024.

On Sept. 10, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. At approximately 5 p.m., a black pickup truck was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old driver from Orangeville, was charged with drive while under suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Jan. 17, 2024.

On Sept. 11, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Wellington Road 7, Centre Wellington. At approximately 7 p.m., a grey sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old driver from North York, was charged with drive while under suspension and class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver, contrary to the H.T.A. Further, the driver was also charged with operate motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. (C.A.I.A.). The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Jan. 17, 2024.

On Sept. 12, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. At approximately 11:45 p.m., a white sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old driver from Orangeville, was charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Dec. 13, 2023.

On Sept. 13, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Main Street West, Palmerston. At approximately 11:30 a.m., a grey sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old driver from Palmerston, was charged with drive while under suspension contrary to the H.T.A. and operate motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the C.A.I.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Jan. 17, 2024.

On Sept. 13, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring for a recurring traffic complaint on Tower Street South, Fergus. At approximately 10 p.m., the target, a white dirt bike, was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old driver from Mapleton, was charged with numerous H.T.A. offences including drive motor vehicle - perform stunt, careless driving and fail to stop for police. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Dec. 13, 2023.

*Anyone charged with operation while impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
