OPP roundup: Several drivers charged on area roadways

The charges include impaired driving, driving under suspension and stunt driving

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On September 21, 2023 at approximately 3:15 p.m., an officer received a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system regarding a possible suspended driver while patrolling Wellington County Road 18, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 44 year old of Fergus has been charged with Drive while under suspension, Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit and with Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on January 17, 2024.

On September 22, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a transport truck pulling a trailer with no license plate on it. The officers topped the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, a 39 year old of Zurich has been charged with Draw trailer - no plate, Draw trailer - no permit, No valid CVOR certificate, Fail to ensure daily inspection property completed, Fail to display inspection sticker or proof, Overweight vehicle, Improper brakes on trailer, and with Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on January 9, 2024.

On September 22, 2023 at approximately 1:30 p.m. an officer patrolling along Sideroad 15, Nichol Township stopped a pickup truck for speeding. As a result of the investigation, an 18 year old of Fergus was charged with Operate unsafe vehicle, Speeding, Improper muffler, No mudguards, and with Windshield obstructed. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on January 17, 2024.

On September 22, 2023 at approximately 7:00 p.m., an officer received a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system regarding a possible suspended driver on St. David Street North, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 30 year old of Mount Forest has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Impaired
  • Operation while Impaired - Blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive no currently validated permit
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on October 10, 2023.

On September 23, 2023 at approximately 2:30 am., officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Second Line, near Erin. As a result of the investigation, a 44 year old of Fergus has been charged with Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused has been scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on October 10, 2023.

On September 23, 2023 at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a traffic complaint of a pickup truck being operated in an erratic manner on Highway 6. Officers located the vehicle on Parkside Drive East. As a result of the investigation, a 37 year old of Fergus has been charged with Dangerous Operation, Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on October 13, 2023.

On September 25, 2023 at approximately 9:30 a.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a motor vehicle speeding on Concession 1, Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, a 25 year old of Mississauga has been charged with Speeding, Driving while under suspension, Use plate not authorized for vehicle, and with Operate a motor vehicle without insurance. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court on January 17, 2024.

On September 27, 2023 at approximately 2:00 am., an officer observed a motor vehicle on Wellington Road 109, near Arthur traveling at approximately 122 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation, a 26 year old of Walkerton has been charged with Stunt, Speeding and Fail to surrender license. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on January 17, 2024.

On September 27, 2023 at approximately 1:30 p.m., an officer received a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system regarding a possible suspended driver on Main Street North, Mount Forest. As a result of the investigation, a 46 year old of Durham has been charged with Operation while prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code, with Driving while under suspension - two counts, Use plate not authorized, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and with Operate vehicle on highway - no insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on October 6, 2023.

On September 27, 2023 at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single vehicle in a ditch off of Wellington Road 6, Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 43 year old of Elmwood has been charged with Operation while Impaired, Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to the Criminal Code and with Having care of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor License Act. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on October 27, 2023.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
