OPP WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Speeding, impaired, possession charges laid

On Sept. 28 at approximately 10 a.m. an officer received a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system for a possible suspended driver while patrolling Main Street West, Palmerston. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old from Monkton has been charged with Driving while Under Suspension. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Jan. 17. 

On Sept. 30 at approximately 12:30 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle travelling at approximately 150 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone along Wellington Road 109, Wellington North Township. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old from Southwold has been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Jan. 17.

On Sept. 30 at approximately 1 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle travelling approximately 146 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone along Wellington Road 7, Guelph-Eramosa Township. As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old from Guelph has been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Jan. 17.

On Sept. 30 at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers received a traffic complaint about a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 9, Minto. Officers located the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old of Norfolk County has been charged with Operation while Impaired. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Oct. 24.

On Oct. 1 at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a theft at a business on Main Street North, Wellington North Township. The complainant advised that the suspect was on scene with their vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and as a result of the investigation, a 49-year-old from Guelph has been charged with Operation while Impaired, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin) and with Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine. A second person who was with the driver, a 46-year-old from West Grey has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin) and with Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine. Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Nov. 24.

On Oct. 2 at approximately 9 a.m., an officer observed a youth operating a pocket / mini motorcycle on Webster Street, Palmerston. The vehicle did not have the necessary equipment to be on a roadway and the driver was not wearing a helmet. As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old from Palmerston has been charged with Fail to Wear Proper Helmet on Motorcycle. The youth also received several warnings regarding driving a motor vehicle with no permit, with no license plates and with no insurance.

On Oct. 3 at approximately 7:45 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a sedan and a school van with students on board on Courtney Street, Fergus. No injuries were reported, and as a result of the investigation, the driver of the sedan, a 34-year-old from Woodstock was charged with Careless Driving.

On Oct. 3 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit were conducting a RIDE check on Wellington Road 9, Mapleton Township. A motor vehicle entered the RIDE program and officers determined that the vehicle had been stolen. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old from Listowel has been charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle Over $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, Fail to Comply with Undertaking, Drive Motor Vehicle No License and with No Seat Belt or Non-Compliant Seat Belt. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Dec. 1.  

On Oct. 3 at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Wellington Road 9, Mapleton Township. A vehicle entered the RIDE program and officers observed open liquor accessible to the driver. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old from Collingwood has been charged with Operation while Impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor and with Possess unmarked cigarettes. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Oct. 27.

On Oct. 4 at approximately 7:50 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle travelling approximately 156 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on the Hanlon Parkway. As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old from Brampton has been charged with Stunt Driving and with Speeding. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Jan. 17.
