Past week sees multiple area drivers charged with impaired

Another driver was charged with stunt driving after being clocked by police going 142 km/h in an 80 km/h zone

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Dec. 29, 2022, an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols along the Hanlon Parkway, when he observed a silver S.U.V. traveling at approximately 142 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. A traffic stop was initiated and as a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old from Guelph has been charged with perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the Guelph provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Dec. 30, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of a pickup trucking being operated in an erratic manner on Wellington Road 7, Nichol Township. As a result of the investigation, [a 57-year-old Elmira driver] has been charged with operation while impaired and with operation while impaired - 80 plus mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 3, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a grey sedan being operated in an erratic manner on Main Street in the town of Erin. Officers were able to locate and stop the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, [a 56-year-old Erin driver] has been charged with operation while impaired - 80 plus mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 3, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Mounty Forest Drive in the town of Mount Forest. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the driver of the vehicle. As a result of the investigation [a 37-year-old Mount Forest driver] has been charged with the following:

  • CC 320.15(1) failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • CC 129 (a) resist peace officer
  • CDSA 4(1) possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - methamphetamine

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 4, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 26. As a result of the investigation, [a 69-year-old from Guelph-Eramosa] has been charged with Operation while impaired and with operation while impaired - 80 plus mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.   

Anyone charged with operation while impaired - 80 plus mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
