Police lay impaired, stunt driving charges

Wellington County OPP laid multiple charges between Nov. 6 and Nov. 16

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Nov. 6, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision on St David Street North in Fergus. It was reported that a Moped had collided with construction pylons. As a result of the investigation, a 67-year-old of Fergus has been charged with:

  • Impaired operation and impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 m/ blood), contrary to the Criminal Code.

 The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 10, 2022, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Wellington County OPP stopped the operator of a white sedan on Woodlawn Road West in Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old driver from Guelph has been charged with:

  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 10, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Eighth Line West in Pilkington. At approximately 4:30 p.m., a white sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 60km/h speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old driver from Walkerton has been charged with: 

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 12, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 124, east of Guelph. At approximately 10:45 a.m., a silver sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/h speed limit. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old driver from Erin has been charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 12, 2022, at approximately 5 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP initiated a traffic stop of a blue sport utility vehicle (S.U.V.) on Maltby Road West in Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 36-years-old from Kitchener has been charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 13, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP stopped the operator of a white SUV on Bridge Street in Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old driver from Palmerston has been charged with:

  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. 

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 15, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 6 in Minto. At approximately 11:15 a.m., a grey SUV was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/h speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old driver from Kitchener has been charged with: 

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Nov. 15, 2022, at approximately 3 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a shoplifting complaint at a business on Tower Street South in Fergus. Investigators located the suspect operating a blue SUV. As a result of the investigation, a 35-years-old driver from Kitchener has been charged with 

  • Operation while impaired and theft under $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice in Guelph at a later date.

On Nov. 16, 2022, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a three-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old from Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Impaired operation - 80 plus
  • Operation while prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice in Guelph at a later date

On Nov. 16, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Hanlon Expressway North in Guelph. It was reported that a sedan and a semi-tractor livestock trailer had collided. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old driver from Guelph was charged with:

  • Change lane not in safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

Further, a 23-year-old commercial operator from Harriston was charged with: 

  • Fail to turn out left to avoid collision, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

Both drivers where were issued offence notices.

Anyone charged with impaired operation - 80 Plus (mg of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with racing a motor vehicle receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
