Speeding, impaired driving keeping Wellington County OPP busy

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police's latest report of notable traffic offences includes driving while suspended, impaired driving and stunt driving.

On Jan. 5, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols along Eighth Line West, Pilkington, when he observed a pickup truck that was traveling at approximately 127 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation a 47-year-old from Guelph has been charged with stunt driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 6 at approximately 7:30 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols along Highway 9 in Minto Township when he observed a pickup truck traveling at approximately 142 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation a 19-year-old of Fergus has been charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences including stunt driving and driving while under suspension. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 6, an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols along the Hanlon parkway between 8:30 and 10:00 p.m. During that time a 23-year-old from Woodbridge was seen traveling approximately 137 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone and an 18-year-old from Guelph was observed traveling approximately 142 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. Both drivers were charged with stunt driving and will appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 7, an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols on the Hanlon Parkway and observed a sedan traveling approximately 113 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old from Guelph was charged with stunt driving, driving while under suspension and multiple other Highway Traffic Act offences. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 7, at approximately 4 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 14, in Wellington North Township. It was reported that a SUV had struck a hydro pole. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old from Sudbury has been charged with Operation while Impaired and with operation while impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 7, at approximately 7:30 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP was on Wellington Road 14 for a road closure due to an earlier motor vehicle collision involving a single motor vehicle and a hydro pole. The officer observed a sedan almost strike the road closure sign before continuing on in an erratic manner. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old from Conn has been charged with operation while Impaired - 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and with Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor License and Control Act. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 8, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received multiple reports of a possibly impaired driver in the town of Mount Forest. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and speak to the driver. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old from Wellington North Township has been charged with operation while impaired and with operation while Impaired- 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.   

On Jan 9, at approximately 12:30 a.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a sedan traveling approximately 140 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Highway 9, Minto Township. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old from Waterloo has been charged with stunt driving and is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 11, at approximately 9 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the complainant's driveway on Tower Street South, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old from Kitchener has been charged with operation while impaired and with failure or refusal to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.
