A Welland man is facing several charges after police found him driving a stolen vehicle on Christmas Eve.

Last week, Wellington County OPP responded to a private Fergus residence on Old Orangeville Road after it was reported a white pickup truck was stolen overnight.

Three days later on Dec 24, police located the truck being operated in West Garafraxa.

After an investigation, a 36-year-old Welland man was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon, and occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.

The operator was also charged with driving while suspended, using an unauthorized plate, defacing a plate, altering a plate, and insecure load.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Feb 2024.
