WEEKLY OPP ROUNDUP: Youths charged with street racing

Also charged in separate incidents were drivers accused of speeding, impaired driving and driving while prohibited

Wellington County OPP report two youths street racing among its notable traffic offences this week.

On Jan. 15 at around 9 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a SUV and a hatchback driving together at approximately 182 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone along Wellington Road 12 in Drayton. As a result of the investigation, a youth from Clifford and a youth from Gorrie were both charged with Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code and with Race a Motor Vehicle - Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Earlier on Jan. 15 at around 1 p.m., the OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old from Milton has been charged with Operation while Impaired, Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal code - 3 counts, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 14 at around 10:30 a.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle after it was observed speeding along Maas Park Road North in the Township of Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old from Brampton was charged with Driving While Under Suspension and with Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act as well as with Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. 

On Jan. 14 at around 8 p.m., an officer was conducting patrols along the Hanlon Parkway when they observed a minivan traveling at approximately 141 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation a 22-year-old from Brampton has been charged with Stunt Driving and is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date. 

On Jan. 14 at around 10 p.m., an officer was patrolling 6 Highway, Nichol Township and observed a SUV traveling at approximately 148 km/hr in an posted 80 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation, a 61-year-old from Acton has been charged with Stunt Driving and is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.
