Weekly OPP wrap up of notable traffic offences

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Sept. 8, 2022, an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols and observed a black coupe with no front license plate on St. Andrew Street, Fergus. The officer stopped the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old from Fergus has been charged with Drive motor vehicle - No license, drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates, No muffler, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court at a later date.

On Sept. 10, 2022 at approximately 3 a.m., officers with the Wellington County OPP were conducting a RIDE program on Sideroad 15, Mapleton Township. Approximately 50 vehicles were checked and one driver, a 23-year-old of Woolwich Township received a three day suspension after registering an "alert" on an approved screening device. The Wellington County OPP would like to remind all vehicle operators to make sure they have a plan in place to get home safely if they intend on drinking. 

On Sept. 10, 2022 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers with the Wellington County OPP were conducting a RIDE program on Marden Road, Guelph-Eramosa when a vehicle entered the program. Officers determined that the driver operating the vehicle had a suspended license, and as a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old from Milton has been charged with driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Sept. 11, 2022, an officer with the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a red sedan after he was observed travelling at a rate of 138 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone on the Hanlon Parkway North. As a result of the investigation a 26-year-old from North York has been charged with Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt, Speeding 50+ km/h over posted limit, Driving while under suspension and Drive motor vehicle - no currently validated permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Sept. 15, 2022 officers with the Wellington County OPP organized a commercial motor vehicle safety inspection blitz in the town of Erin. Officers with the Wellington County OPP, Guelph Police, Halton Police, Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Finance all participated in the blitz. Approximately 57 commercial motor vehicles were inspected, 19 commercial vehicles were placed out of service and approximately 53 charges were laid. The collaboration and efforts of these various community partners illustrates their dedication to keeping our roadways safe.
