Weekly OPP wrap-up of notable traffic offences

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Dec. 1, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Wellington County OPP received a trespass report on King Street East, Mount Forest. It was reported that an unknown snowmobiler was illegally operating a snowmachine on private property. Investigators discovered damages to a gate that may have been caused by the snowmachine striking it. Any person with information regarding this incident should contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip on-line at www.csgw.tips. You may be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers of up to $2,000. Wellington County OPP wants to remind snowmachine operators and off-road enthusiasts that when you do not have permission to enter lands that are privately owned, you run the risk of being charged with trespassing. You may also be held liable to damages that are incurred by your actions. Please respect the rights of landowners and get permission before off-roading or sledding on other's property.

On Dec. 1, 2022, at approximately 11 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Wellington Road 21, west of Elora. It was reported a grey sedan had left the roadway and collided with a tree. The lone occupant was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of the investigation, the driver of the sedan, a 57-year-old Kitchener resident, was charged with Careless Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Dec. 5, 2022, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to reported collision on Bedford Road, north of the City of Guelph. It was reported that a red minivan had collided with a concrete barrier. As a result of the investigation, a 66-year-old of Kitchener, has been charged with operation while impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.  

On Dec. 6, 2022, members of the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere check on Highway 6, north of Guelph. At approximately 1 a.m., a grey Sport Utility Vehicle entered the check. As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old of Guelph, has been charged with operation while impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Dec. 6, 2022, at approximately 7 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to at reported collision on Wellington Road 124, Erin. Initial reports indicated that a black coupe and a black sedan had collided. The lone occupant of the sedan was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of the investigation, the operator of the coupe, 40-years-old of Erin, has been charged with Operation while impaired and operation while impaired - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On Dec. 7, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Eighth Line West, Pilkington. At approximately 10 a.m., a grey pickup truck was observed travelling well above the posted 60km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old resident of Ayr, was charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On Dec. 7, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Tower Street South, Fergus. At approximately 10:15 p.m., a white pickup truck was observed driving in a dangerous manner. As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old old of Fergus, was charged with dangerous driving, contrary to the criminal code. Further, the driver was also charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice- Guelph, at a later date.

Anyone charged with operation while impaired - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
