Wellington County OPP is getting some help from the province to keep repeat violent offenders from committing crimes while out on bail.

The local detachment is getting a $1,065,905 grant, part of a provincial investment of $24 million over the next three years, and being delivered through the province’s bail compliance and warrant apprehension grant program.

“It is unacceptable that repeat and violent offenders are committing serious crimes while out on bail,” solicitor general Michael Kerzner said in a news release.

“By giving police the tools they need to track and arrest offenders who violate their bail conditions, our government is helping to ensure Ontario is one of the safest jurisdictions in Canada.”

The money will help police forces invest in technology for a bail compliance monitoring system, as well as establish teams to keep an eye on people considered high-risk.
