WELLINGTON COUNTY – The OPP’s annual holiday impaired driving campaign has resulted in a number of charges in its first month.
A news release from OPP West Region said the Wellington detachment has laid 19 impaired driving charges since the Festive RIDE campaign launched on Nov. 16.
The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
In the entire West Region, made up of 13 detachments across southwestern Ontario, officers have conducted 1,673 RIDE check events which have led to 249 impaired driving charges and 43 warn-range suspensions.
The campaign runs until Jan. 1.
