WELLINGTON WEEKLY: Seven 'notable' traffic incidents from OPP

Charges include impaired, dangerous operation, driving without insurance and others

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On July 7, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle being driven erratically on Wellington Road 7, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, a 65-year-old of Fergus has been charged with Impaired Operation, Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus) and with Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on July 25, 2023.

On July 7, 2023 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old of Welland has been charged with Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on July 28, 2023.   

On July 9, 2023 at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Wellington County OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. Program on Victoria Road North, Guelph-Eramosa when a motor vehicle entered the program. As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old of Arthur has been charged with Impaired Operation. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 29, 2023. 

On July 10, 2023 shortly after 5:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch. As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old of Stoney Creek, has been charged with Impaired Operation, Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus) and with Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 1, 2023.

On July 10, 2023 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision. A hydro pole was damaged and the driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, a 70-year-old from Wellington North Township has been charged with Impaired Operation. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 4, 2023.

On July 10, 2023 at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at Wellington Road 34 and Townline Road, Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, a 67-year-old of Cambridge has been charged with Dangerous Operation, Impaired Operation, and with Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus) and with Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 1, 2023.

On July 12, 2023 at approximately 4:00 p.m., an officer stopped a motor vehicle on Hill Street West for a Highway Traffic Act violation. As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old of Arthur has been charged with Failure to Yield to Traffic, Drive with Liquor Readily Available, Drive with Cannabis Readily Available, Possess Unmarked Cigarettes, Fail to Surrender License, Drive Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Novice Driver - B.A.C. above zero, and with Drive Motor Vehicle with No Currently Validated Permit. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on November 1, 2023. 

Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
