WELLINGTON WEEKLY: Stunt driving charges dominate OPP notable offences

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On Nov. 26, 2023, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Woodlawn Glen Drive, Guelph. At approximately 12:30 a.m., a black sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 70 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year old driver from Ancaster has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6.

On Dec. 6, at approximately 4 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a collision on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. It was reported that the driver of grey sedan rear-ended a black Sport Utility Vehicle and fled the scene. The driver of the SUV required medical attention. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old driver from Guelph, has been charged with careless driving, fail to remain, fail to report accident and suspended driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 20.

On Dec. 10, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to traffic complaint on Highway 7, west of Guelph. It was reported that the driver of red pickup truck was asleep at a traffic light. As a result of the investigation a 23-year-old of Kitchener has been charged with operation while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Jan. 2.

On Dec. 28, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Tower Street South, Fergus. At approximately 11:15 p.m., a silver pickup truck was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old driver from Centre Wellington, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on April 3.

On Dec. 29, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 8:30 a.m., a silver sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old driver from Kitchener, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on April 3, 2024.

On Dec. 29, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Gordon Street, Fergus. At approximately 8:15 p.m., the driver of a red pickup truck was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old driver from Floradale has been charged with suspended driving, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on April 3.

On Dec. 31, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to traffic complaint on Wellington Road 18, Nichol. It was reported that the driver of black SUV was driving erratically. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old driver from Mono, has been charged with suspended driving contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on April 3.

On Jan. 1 at approximately 3:36 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a reported a collision on Wellington Road 18, east of Fergus. It was reported that a silver SUV and white pickup truck had collided. As a result, of the investigation a 41-year-old of Fergus has been charged with dangerous driving, Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired over 80, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on Feb. 16.

On Jan. 2, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 18, west of Fergus. At approximately 2:30 a.m., a white sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old driver from Waterloo, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph on April 17.

On Jan. 2 a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109, Minto. At approximately 9:00 a.m., the driver of a black mini van was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old driver from Harriston has been charged with suspended driving, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on April 17.

On Jan. 2, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Jones Baseline, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 3:45 p.m., a blue sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old driver from Waterloo has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on April 3.
