WELLINGTON WEEKLY: Suspended, impaired drivers among those charged

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Nov. 8, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Orangeville Road, Fergus. At approximately 8:15 a.m., the driver of a black pick-up truck was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old driver from North York, has been charged with driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.) . The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 11, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a blue pick-up truck that was in the ditch on Sideroad 15, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old of Elora has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while Impaired (80 Plus) and Operation while Prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code (C.C.). Further, the accused was also charged with Driving while Under Suspension, Novice Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) above zero, contrary to the H.T.A., and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act (L.L.C.A.). The accused is scheduled to appear on the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Nov. 28.

On Nov. 11, members of the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 3:00 a.m., a white pick-up truck entered the check. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old of Fergus, has been charged with Operation while Impaired (80 Plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on December 1, 2023.

On Nov. 11, at approximately 8 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a white pick-up truck on Alma Street, Rockwood. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old driver from Elora, was charged with driving while under suspension, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 11, at approximately 12 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a blue pick-up truck on Second Line, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old driver from Puslinch was charged with driving while under suspension and drive motor vehicle without a currently validate permit, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 11, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 89, Wellington North. At approximately 7:30 p.m., a green coupe was observed travelling above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old driver from Angus, has been charged with speeding and driving while under suspension, contrary to the H.T.A. Further, the defendant was charged with driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor contrary to the L.L.C.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 11, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) on Main Street, Palmerston. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old, has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance - cocaine contrary to the Criminal Code. Further the driver was also charged with operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (C.A.I.A.), drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act (C.C.A.), having care and control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor contrary to the L.L.C.A. and with use plate unauthorized for vehicle, drive motor vehicle - no license and operate unsafe vehicle, contrary to the H.T.A. The accused was held for bail.

On Nov. 12, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Tower Street South, Fergus. At approximately 4:30 p.m., a white pickup truck was observed pulling a trailer with an insecure load. As a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old driver from Utterson has been charged with numerous provincial offences including draw trailer - no plate, no red light on rear of trailer, operate unsafe combination of vehicles, insecure load, improper means of attachment, defective brakes, defective horn - motor vehicle, improper tires, and Improper brakes on trailer, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 12, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a white mini van on Wellington Road 26, Belwood. As a result of the investigation a 43-year-old of Orton, has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired (80 Plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the accused was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor contrary to the L.L.C.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Nov. 28.

On Nov. 13, at approximately 8:15 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a silver sedan on Balmoral Drive, Guelph. As a result of an investigation, a 64-year-old driver from Guelph, has been charged with driving while under suspension, use plate not authorized for vehicle and drive motor vehicle - not equipped with ignition interlock device, contrary to the H.T.A. further, the driver was also charged with operate a motor vehicle without Insurance, contrary to the C.A.I.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph on Jan. 5, 2024.

On Nov. 16, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 124, Erin. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a white pick-up truck was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old driver from Erin has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 16, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint on Rhodes Road, Puslinch. It was reported that a black pick-up truck was observed in the area. As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old of Puslinch, has been charged with operation while impaired (80 Plus) contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Dec. 19.

On Nov. 16, at approximately 11 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey sedan on Sligo Road East, Mount Forest. As a result of an investigation, a 26-year-old driver from Harriston has been charged with driving while under suspension and fail to surrender permit, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 17, at approximately 4 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to an All-Terrain Vehicle (A.T.V.) collision near Lou's Boulevard, Guelph/Eramosa. It was reported that an A.T.V. was involved in a rollover and one person suffered minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old of Guelph, has been charged with operation while Impaired and operation while impaired (80 Plus), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Dec. 5, 2023.

On Nov. 17, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along North Broadway Street, Belwood. At approximately 8 a.m., a white van with trailer was observed travelling well above the posted 50 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 58-year-old driver from Glen Williams, has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed and draw trailer - no permit, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 18, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a green sedan on Millburn Boulevard, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old driver from Breslau was charged with operate unsafe vehicle and drive motor vehicle - no currently validated permit, contrary to the H.T.A. Further, the driver was also charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the C.A.I.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 18, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a fail to remain collision that occurred on Maiden Lane, Fergus. It was reported that a silver mini van had crossed a lawn striking a leaf bag before hitting a planter's box and hydro pole guide wire. As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old driver from Fergus, was charged with two counts of careless driving and one count of fail to remain, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 18, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black sedan on Sideroad 4, Pilkington. As a result of an investigation, a 26-year-old of Aris, has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance - cocaine and possession of a Schedule 1 substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to the C.D.S.A. Further, the accused was charged with obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Jan. 9, 2024.

On Nov. 1, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Sixteenth Line, Mapleton. At approximately 3:45 p.m., a red sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old driver from Fergus has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 19, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a blue mini van on Concession 8, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation a 36-year-old from Palmerston, has been charged with operation while prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Jan. 9, 2024.

On Nov. 19, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Concession 1, Puslinch. At approximately 5:45 p.m., a silver sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 60 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old driver from Cambridge has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Febr. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 19, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along Elora Street South, Clifford. At approximately 9 p.m., a red hatchback was observed travelling above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old driver from Orangeville was charged with speeding and use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to the H.T.A. Further, the driver was also charged with operate a motor vehicle without Insurance contrary to the C.A.I.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court on Feb. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 20 at approximately 7 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP was conducting a C.M.V. inspection on a grey van on Clair Road, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old of Cambridge, was charged with operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code. Further, the accused was also charged with fail to accurately complete daily inspection report and improper tires - commercial motor vehicle, contrary to the H.T.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Dec. 15.

On Nov. 20 at approximately 1:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey S.U.V. on Wellington Road 34, Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old driver from Maple, was charged with Driving while Under Suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Nov. 20, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black sedan on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old driver from Guelph, was charged with driving while under suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on February 7, 2024.

On Nov. 20, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 4 p.m., the operator of a silver sedan was observed operating a handheld communication device. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old driver from Mississauga was charged with operating a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the C.A.I.A. and with drive - handheld communication device contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Febr. 7, 2024.

On Nov. 20, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic along the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 7:15 p.m., a grey S.U.V. was observed travelling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 42-year-old of Guelph, has been charged with operation while impaired (80 Plus) contrary to the Criminal Code. Further the accused is also charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed contrary to the H.T.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Jan. 19, 2024.

On Nov. 20, at approximately 7 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a white pick-up truck on Wellington Road 19, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old driver from Arthur, has been charged with driving while under suspension. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Nov. 21 at approximately 10 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black minivan on Fifth Line, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 67-year-old driver from Centre Wellington was charged with operate motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the C.A.I.A. Further, the driver was also charged with operate unsafe motor vehicle, drive motor vehicle - no licence, obstruct plate, and fail to notify change of address, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
