WELLINGTON WEEKLY: Suspended, impaired drivers among those charged

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On Dec. 6, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on St David Street North, Fergus. At approximately 11:30 a.m., the driver of a black sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old driver from Mount Forest, was charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsorily Automobile Insurance Act (C.A.I.A.). Further, the driver was also charged with Suspended Driving, Use Plate Unauthorized, Fail to Apply for Permit, and Obstruct Plate, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.). The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Dec. 6, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Nichol. At approximately 2:15 p.m., a black Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old driver from Arthur has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Dec. 6, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a red sedan on Blind Line, Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old driver from Harriston, was charged with two counts of Suspended Driving contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Dec. 8, at approximately 11:45 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black S.U.V. on Concession 7, Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, a 71-year-old driver from Guelph, was charged with Suspended Driving contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 20, 2024.

On Dec. 8, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Peel Street West, Mapleton. At approximately 6:00 p.m., a white pick-up truck was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old driver from Elora has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed and Young Driver - Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) above Zero, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on January 24, 2024.

On Dec. 8, members of the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Wellington Road 21, Pilkington. At approximately 8:30 p.m., the driver of a black sedan entered the check. As a result of the investigation a 20-year-old of Alliston has been charged with Operation while Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code. Further the driver was also charged with Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act (C.C.A.). The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on January 2, 2023.

On Dec. 9, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black pickup truck on Wellington Road 14, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old driver from Belwood, was charged with Suspended Driving contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Dec. 9, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Pilkington. At approximately 6:45 p.m., a silver S.U.V. was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old driver from Guelph has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed, No Currently Validate Permit and Fail to Notify Change of Address, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Dec. 9, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black pickup truck on Arthur Street East, Harriston. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old driver from Harriston, was charged with Suspended Driving contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

On Dec. 12, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a red sedan on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 65-year-old driver from Orangeville, was charged with Suspended Driving and No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on March 6, 2024.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
