A number of drivers are facing impaired driving charges

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On June 29, 2023 at approximately 7:45 a.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 139 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone on Highway 6 near Sideroad 18. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old of Waterloo has been charged with stunt driving, having cannabis readily available, and possession more then one driver's license. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Sept. 13, 2023.

On July 1, 2023 at approximately 3 a.m., officers with the Wellington County OPP observed a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Highway 7 and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation, [a 48-year-old from] Breslau has been charged with operation while impaired -B.A.C. (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on July 21, 2023.

On July 1, 2023, at approximately 9:15 p.m., an officer observed a motorcycle traveling at approximately 168 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Highway 9, Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old of Delhi has been charged with stunt driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court of Guelph on Sept. 13, 2023. 

On July 2, 2023 at approximately 11:30 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on Trafalgar Road, Erin. As a result of the investigation, [a 44-year-old from] Brampton has been charged with failure to comply with release order and with operation while impaired -B.A.C. (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Aug. 29, 2023.

On July 2, 2023 at approximately 6 p.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling at approximately 140 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old of North York has been charged with stunt driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Sept. 13, 2023. 

On July 3, 2023 at approximately 7 p.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 150 km/hr on Highway 6, Guelph/Eramosa. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old of Kitchener has been charged with stunt driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Oct. 25, 2023. 

On July 4, 2023 at approximately 2:15 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling at approximately 178 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 109 near Harriston. As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old of Toronto has been charged with stunt driving, drive motor vehicle no license, fail to surrender insurance card, speeding and fail to surrender license. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on Oct. 4, 2023. 

On July 5, 2023 at approximately 4 a.m., officers with the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Memorial Street in Eden Mills. As a result of the investigation, [a 36-year-old from] Woodstock has been charged with impaired operation and with operation while impaired -B.A.C. (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on July 25, 2023.

*Anyone charged with operation while impaired- 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
