GuelphToday received the following Letter to the Editor from Evan Accettola, President of the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council in regard to the portrayal of the Métis Nation in the media:
As the president of the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council, I really want to voice my concern about how our community is being portrayed in the media.
Lately, it seems like the news is more interested in grabbing attention with click-bait quotes instead of providing a real understanding of our history. This kind of reporting not only misrepresents us to the public, but also impacts our sense of community pride and identity. It’s crucial that media outlets consider how their stories affect young Métis individuals like me and strive for accuracy and depth when covering stories about Métis communities in Ontario.
