CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Thursday, July 15, golfers took to the green at Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club in Ariss for the 1st Freedom from Addiction Golf Classic in support of Portage Ontario.

The event raises funds for youth treatment beds at Portage Ontario. This was the first tournament Portage has hosted in Ontario.

“We are thrilled with the response,” said Ashley-Ann Maginnis, Manager of Development, “This event raises critical funds for the youth in Ontario suffering from substance dependencies and allows our clinical team to provide the highest level of care to these individuals.”

“We are grateful to our community, our corporate sponsors, our golfers and volunteers who helped make this a successful tournament," Maginnis said. "We are thrilled to announce we have raised a net of over $20,000. This generous support makes an incredible impact for our most vulnerable patients.”

The Freedom from Addiction Golf Classic welcomed 93 golfers for a day of 18 holes of golf. Golfers started to tee off at 11:30 a.m. with lunch provided by Linton Pasture Pork. The rain held off and golfers enjoyed dinner along the balcony of the club house, sponsored by Whiskey Jack Painters and Rowbot.io.

An online auction was held, opening up the opportunity for community members to support the fundraising efforts as well. The auction closed Sunday, July 18 and contributed over $1,500 to the overall fundraising total.
