DRAYTON – The Township of Mapleton’s newest park is getting close to being paid off by the local Rotary Club.

The Drayton Rotary Club has paid off $80,000 of a total of $100,000 for a new park opened this summer in Drayton at the end of Queen Street.

A news release stated the local rotarians had come before council in October 2021 to propose a partnership on the new park. Through this, the township would finance the project up front to be paid back by the Drayton Rotary Club over five years.

The release said Drayton Rotary was able to raise $80,000 through community support and the remaining funding will come over the next four years through a commitment from an unnamed local business.

The Drayton Rotary Club will be moving on to their next round of fundraising for the park to add a lookout, sunshades, signage and other park necessities.
