St. David Street Reconstruction project tendered for almost $7 million

The first phase of the St. David Street construction has begun.

FERGUS – The township has tendered the St. David Street North reconstruction project for under $7,000,000. 

Approving staff's recommendations during a Centre Wellington council meeting Monday afternoon, the tender was awarded to Drexler Construction Limited, who offered $6,965,000, including contingency and excluding HST. 

The report said the project's current total budget is $9,705,497 and will replace aging infrastructure along St. David Street North including the municipal underground infrastructure, full road and sidewalk replacement, traffic calming measures, signalized intersection upgrades, a pedestrian crossing at St. George Street utility relocation and active transportation elements. 

Currently, the project is $959,665 under budget based on tender results.

Budgeted at $4,216,764, construction is underway for phase one of the project and will reconstruct St. David Street North from St. Andrew Street to 50 metres north of Garafraxa Street. 

Phase two will reconstruct St. David Street North from 50 metres North of Garafraxa Street to Edinburgh Avenue in 2025 for $2,748,236.

In 2026, the report said construction will involve structure/water valve adjustments, surface asphalt paving and line painting from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue.

The township will receive $2,849,176 through the Ministry of Transportation's 2023-24 Connecting Links Program to facilitate the reconstruction from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue.
