The Edison Singers will be presenting performances of Warm Breath of Spring in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Toronto, and Elora during late April and early May to help usher in spring with a comforting and inspiring array of songs new and old.

The title of the concert Warm Breath of Spring comes from the late, great Gordon Lightfoot song “Pussy Willows, Cat-tails” which was inspired by Lightfoot’s upbringing in Orillia, Ontario. He said the song came to life in “a very idyllic spot; it was classic: a river, a pond, a dam and a stream.”

From traditional pieces like “Shall We Gather at the River” to more recent works from Eriks Esenvalds and Billy Joel — and, of course, Lightfoot’s “Pussy Wiilows, Cat-Tails” — The Edison Singers have assembled a charming programme of music from the folk traditions and spirituals of many times and places.

The Edison Singers are an all-professional choir guided by the internationally acclaimed Artistic Director and Conductor, Noel Edison. “No-one can coax a sound from a choir quite like Noel,” said an audience member following a recent performance. “Some of the most moving musical experiences of my life have been at
concerts he has conducted.”

Dr. Edison has been recognized as a highly versatile and charismatic conductor, widely appreciated for his skillful interpretive work with both choir and orchestra. In 2002, he received an honourary doctorate from the University of Guelph for his longstanding contribution to choral music in Canada, and in 2009, he was appointed to the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest honour. In 2012 he was presented with Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
