FERGUS – Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) and the Township of Centre Wellington are moving forward with their plan to divide the Old Groves Hospital lands.

The two parties have signed a memorandum of understanding where the township will assume ownership of the old Queen Street medical building and current Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service building while GMCH keeps the former hospital land including parking lots.

To formalize this application, MPP Randy Pettapiece will present a private bill to amend the Groves Act to transfer ownership of the lands.

Pettapiece will be presenting this on behalf of MPP Ted Arnott who is not permitted to present the application in his current role as speaker of the house.

Gilles Madore, GMCH board chair, said in a press release formalizing the legal title will help both parties decide on future uses.

In accordance with legislative procedures, notice of the private bill application will be made over the next few weeks in the Ontario Gazette and local publication.
