August 31st, 1994 - February 12th, 2024
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share that Morgwn Robert Brough passed away suddenly on Feb.12, 2024, at the age of 29 from complications related to asthma. Morgwn was surrounded by his family in the ICU at Grand River Hospital in his final moments.
Morgwn leaves behind his parents, Anne Stubington and Kevin Brough as well as his big sister Kathleen (Katee). Morgwn is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Morgwn was born in Fergus Ontario on August 31, 1994 and went to school at Elora Public and CWDHS. Morgwn loved cooking from an early age and announced happily at age 6 that he was going to be a snowboarder and a Chef. He was an avid snowboarder and paddler from an early age, and loved soccer and karate. His dedication to the sport saw him earn his blackbelt at age 15. He loved camping and canoe tripping with friends and family and was an LIT (leader in training) at Camp Wabanaki. He and his dad went on many adventures including whitewater kayaking weekends as well as numerous car races.
After high school he followed his dream and moved to Whistler where he continued his adventures in snowboarding, downhill mountain biking, and fishing. He always felt that he had found his happy place and kindred spirits in Whistler. After Whistler he followed a great love, and moved to London England. There he worked at many high end restaurants and enjoyed discovering his new country, and traveling in Europe. He came home just before COVID-19 to be closer to his family. He lived with intention, passion, and in such a way that he truly made the most of every moment he had.
His career started humbly washing dishes and finished as Jr Sous Chef. He found community in the CW Food School, the Four Seasons in Whistler among many other jobs in the industry. Most recently he had found a new leadership role, and a welcoming team at The Charcoal Steakhouse in Kitchener.
Those who worked with him throughout his career said he made people feel welcomed and valued, and that he was a dedicated team member. Morgwn had an infectious smile, a great laugh, a quick wit and a huge heart. We are overwhelmed and in awe at the outpouring of well wishes and stories from his friends from around the world. He left an impression everywhere he went, and one that people carried with them long after their journey's parted ways.
The family wants to thank The Emergency and ICU teams at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. Their expert care and compassion during Morgwn’s last days made an impossible situation more manageable for us. We also want to thank his roommate who did everything in his power to get Morgwn to the hospital for emergency care.
Morgwn will continue his legacy of caring by providing his organs to others in need.
There will be a celebration of his life in the spring. To honour Morgwn’s life and legacy, do as he would have done; be kind and pay it forward whenever you can.
