Glenda Irene was an accomplished individual and incredibly well travelled.

Born in Calgary, to parents who married in the depression, Glenda’s early years were spent in Western Canada. Glenda had many fond memories of holidays spent at her paternal grandparents rustic farm in Hazenmore, Saskatchewan. As a teenager her family lived in Port Arthur and then moved to Montreal, where Glenda earned her degree in piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music and graduated from McGill in 1954 at the top of her class. Glenda married her University sweetheart, Kirk Tambling in 1957.

Kirk and Glenda had three daughters in the early sixties, and very much enjoyed moving to Switzerland and travelling through Europe, when their daughters were young. Upon returning to North America, Kirk and Glenda lived in various locations in Quebec and Ontario, and even Philadelphia for a few years in the early 70’s.

In 1975 Glenda and her family bought a horse farm near Ennotville (south of Elora, Ont). Country living was new to Glenda, but she embraced the challenge and mastered gardening skills, preserving fruits and veggies, and hosting a decades’ worth of fabulous seasonal celebrations and the never to be forgotten “corn roasts”.

In 1988 their marriage came to an end, and Glenda moved to Mississauga. Life changes found Glenda remarrying in In 1991.

2004 brought changes and a new life chapter for Glenda when she moved to Meaford. She very much enjoyed her lovely home, her beautiful gardens and developed wonderful friendships to see her through nearly twenty years of living next to sparkling Georgian Bay.

Through many life changes, Glenda was an independent and dynamic learner. A Home Ec grad and an early adopter of “sewing with knits”, Glenda was a brilliant clothes maker, providing her daughters and self with many wonderful garments; from terry cloth bath robes and swimsuits, to tailored riding jackets. Glenda was a pioneer in organic skin care, and very much enjoyed empowering women though her knowledge of fashion, style and colour. A classical music lover, Glenda listened to CBC radio, and was active in municipal politics. An impeccable home maker, gourmet cook and avid dancer, Glenda was the hostess with the “mostest”, entertaining friends whether on her travels or at home.

Glenda had a certain “joie de vivre” and strength of character that saw her through life’s many challenges. Whether driving her Alfa Romeo sports car in Europe, skiing in the Alps, chasing horses off her bird feeder, marvelling at giant statues on Easter Island or cruising through pristine lakes in Russia, Glenda’s sparkling personality and social graces ensured safe travels.

Glenda will be fondly remembered by friends and family, for setting a very beautiful stage full of great food, vibrant music, song and dance, and elegant surroundings, upon which so very many wonderful memories were made.

A memorial service for Glenda will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at St. John’s Anglican Church, Elora at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to Beaver Valley Outreach. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
