Impaired driving charges for Mount Forest woman who crashed into Kitchener ION train

Police were told the vehicle hit a fire hydrant and jumped a curb before ending up on the LRT tracks

Waterloo Regional Police arrested a Mount Forest female for impaired driving after a collision with an ION Light Rail Transit (LRT) train.

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., police responded to reports of a motor vehicle in the area of Charles Street East and Cameron Street South in Kitchener.

The driver was observed striking a fire hydrant, hitting roadway curbs, and driving on the LRT tracks where a collision occurred with an occupied LRT train. Police were able to locate the vehicle and stop the driver.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 54-year-old female with:

  • Fail to remain
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

There were no physical injuries reported.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court on April 3, 2024.

Westbound traffic on Charles Street East between Stirling Avenue South and Cameron Street South will be closed for an unknown time to repair the damages.
