OPP WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Charges include speeding, impaired driving

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On Feb. 6, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Nichol. At approximately 12:15 p.m., the driver of a white sedan was observed travelling above the posted 80 kilometres per hour speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old driver from Cambridge, was charged with Speeding and Drive Motor Vehicle - No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Operating Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15, 2024.

On Feb. 6, 2024 approximately 12 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP performed a commercial motor vehicle inspection of a silver pickup truck and trailer on Wellington Road 7, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old driver from South Bruce Peninsula faces numerous Highway Traffic Act charges including Insecure Load and Improper Breaking System - Commercial Vehicle. Further, a Bruce Peninsula business faces numerous Highway Traffic Act charges including Overweight Vehicle and Failed to Supply Driver with Daily Inspection Schedule. In total, 19 commercial motor vehicle offences were identified.

On Feb. 6, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a blue sedan on Wellington Road 18, Pilkington. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old driver from Mount Forest, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - No Currently Validated Permit and Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15, 2024.

On Feb. 7, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 7:15 p.m., the driver of a red sport utility vehicle was observed travelling above the posted 80 kilometers per hour speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old driver from Fergus, was charged with Speeding and Failing to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15, 2024.

On Feb. 7, 2024 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Wellington Road 125, Erin. It was reported that the driver of a black pickup truck was possibly impaired. As a result of the investigation, [a 55-year-old] of Mount Forest, has been charged with Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Feb. 27, 2024.

On Feb. 8, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. The driver of a gold minivan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old driver from Grand Valley was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - No Currently Validated Permit and Driver Fail to Surrender License, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15, 2024.

On Feb. 8, 2024 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 6, Nichol. It was reported that the driver of a black sedan was possibly impaired. As a result of the investigation, [a 41-year-old] of Wellington North, has been charged with Impaired Operation contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - No License contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Feb. 27, 2024.

On Feb. 9, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 5, Minto. At approximately 10:15 a.m., the driver of a grey sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old driver from Gowanstown, has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Operating Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15, 2024.

Feb. 9, 2024 at approximately 12 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to reported dispute on Belsyde Avenue East, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, [a 61-year-old] of Elora, has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Feb. 27, 2024.

On Feb. 9, 2024 at approximately 9 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 6, Mapleton. It was reported that the driver of a brown sedan was possibly impaired. As a result of the investigation, [a 32-year-old] of Wellington North, has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus and Dangerous Operation, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice, on Feb. 27, 2024.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired - BAC 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
