OPP WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Commercial vehicle drivers are among those charged

Police also charged drivers with speeding, stunt driving and being impaired behind the wheel

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On October 19, 2023 at approximately 2:30 p.m. an officer stopped a fully loaded tractor trailer that was speeding in a community safety zone on Wellington Road 21. As a result of the investigation, a 33 year old of Arthur has been charged with Speeding - Community Safety Zone and with Drive after 16 Hours Since Last Break without 8 Hours Off. A business out of Arthur was also charged with Request, Require or Allow Driver Not to Comply with Section 18. Both driver and company were issued provincial offence notices.

On October 20, 2023 at approximately 4:00 p.m. an officer stopped a motor vehicle for running a red light on Gordon Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation a 61 year old of Elora has been charged with Fail to Stop at Red Light, Drive Motor Vehicle - No Currently Validated Permit, Defective Braking System, Improper Muffler and Operation Motor Vehicle without Insurance. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024.

On October 20, 2023 at approximately 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a logging trailer that had become detached and gone into the ditch. No injuries were reported and there was minimal damage to the trailer. As a result of the investigation, a 45 year old of Hanover has been charged with Unsafe Move - Lane or Shoulder and with Fail to Surrender Completed Daily Inspection Report. A Mildmay business was charged with Fail to Equip Commercial Motor Vehicle with ELD and with Fail to ensure Daily Inspection Report is Accurately Completed.

On October 22, 2023 at approximately 11:15 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 140 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Highway 6, Guelph-Eramosa. As a result of the investigation, a 44 year old of Fergus has been charged with Stunt Driving and Speeding. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024.

On October 23, 2023 at approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Sixteenth Line, Minto Township. As a result of the investigation, a 34 year old of Arthur has been charged with Impaired Operation - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and with Disobey Stop Sign - Fail to Stop. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on November 14, 2023.

On October 23, 2023 at approximately 10:00 p.m. an officer stopped a truck and trailer on St. David Street North, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 37 year old of Brampton was charged with Insecure Load, Operate Vehicle with Load not Secured as Prescribed and with Defective Brakes. A Brampton business was also charged with Permit Operation of Vehicle - Fail to Display Inspection in Sticker or Proof.

On October 24, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle in the ditch on Wellington Road 7, Mapleton. Officers attended and located the driver who was uninjured. As a result of the investigation, a 39 year old of Mapleton has been charged with Impaired Operation - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on November 14, 2023.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
