WELLINGTON WEEKLY: Two charged in possession of automobile master key

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On Feb. 2, at approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP attempted to stop two vehicles in Mount Forest. The driver of a grey sedan was stopped on Main Street North, Mount Forest. As a result, an 18-year-old from St. Claire, Quebec, was charged with obstruct police, four counts of possession automobile master key, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and two counts of trafficking in property obtained by crime, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.
The driver of a stolen Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was stopped on Wellington Road 6, Minto. As a result, a 22-year-old of Montreal has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, possessing automobile master key, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On Feb. 2, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 3:30 p.m., a white SUV was observed travelling well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. As a result, a 33-year-old driver from Morriston, was charged with driving motor vehicle - performed stunt - excessive speed country to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15.

On Feb. 3 at approximately 5 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. It was reported that the driver of a white sedan was possibly impaired. As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old of Arthur, was charged with impaired operation and impaired operation - blood alcohol concentration - 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Feb. 20.

On Feb. 4, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109, Minto. At approximately 12:30 a.m., the driver of a black sport utility vehicle was observed travelling well above the posted 80 k/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation,a 34-year-old of Brampton has been charged with Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration - 80 Plus and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed and driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice Guelph, on Feb. 23.

On Feb. 4 a member of the Washington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 23, Minto. At approximately 11 p.m., the driver of a silver sedan was observed travelling above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old driver from Harriston was charged with careless driving and speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on May 15.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
